We offer exploration services for gold, diamonds, base metals, uranium and various minerals.

Our History

Led by our Managing Director, Bill McLellan, Poseidon Geophysics (Pty) is proud to be one of Africa’s oldest and most respected geophysical contracting and consulting companies.

With nearly 50 years of excellence, the Poseidon Group has amassed an impressive legacy, including the collection of over 1,000,000 line kilometers of airborne geophysical survey data from the late 1990s to the present. The company’s founders were pioneers in developing the tri-axial aeromagnetic gradiometer system, a groundbreaking innovation that has significantly advanced kimberlite exploration and improved geological and structural mapping.

In 2001, Poseidon Geophysics sold its airborne survey division to Fugro Airborne Surveys. Today, the company specializes in gravity surveys and operates three Scintrex CG-3 AutoGrav gravity meters, including a MicroGal high-precision meter, collecting over 3,000 gravity stations annually.
Poseidon continues to build on its rich history of innovation and exceptional service, cementing its role as a leader in geophysical exploration across Africa.

What we support

Beyond charitable contributions, our Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives focus on areas closely aligned with our expertise, including geotourism, agrogeology, geohazard management and risk reduction, environmental management, and engineering geology for infrastructure development. Some of our most notable CSR efforts include:

  • Exploration of the Gcwihaba Caves Project: Collaborating with the Government of Botswana to support the development of a new national park. Poseidon played a key role in helping the project team locate previously undiscovered caves without natural entrances and identifying potential connections to unexplored cave sections.
  • Share Botswana Tourism Fiction Award: Sponsoring award winners with accommodation and tourism activity vouchers. This initiative aims to promote domestic and green tourism while fostering creative writing skills that contribute to African literature and provide sustainable livelihood opportunities.
  • Support for Rotary International: Poseidon Geophysics has proudly been a long-standing member and corporate sponsor of Rotary International, contributing to its impactful global and community initiatives.
